Description
The Bridge for Heroes is a small charity with a big heart that supports the Armed Forces community of West Norfolk and beyond.
We run a Drop-In centre on South Clough Lane, King’s Lynn PE30 1SE. Our doors are open from 10 am until 4 pm Monday through Friday and from 10 am until 2 pm on Saturdays. We provide hot and cold drinks and home-cooked lunches, as well as a warm welcome and friendly conversation.
If you are a veteran or serving member of HM Forces, full-time or reserve, you are welcome to access our services. If you are the spouse, widow/er, parent, child or carer of someone who has served or is serving, we are here for you too. And we don’t want to forget families separated through divorce or relationship breakdown. We do everything we can to assess needs on a case-by-case basis, and it all starts with a brew and a chat!
What do we offer? As a minimum, a cup of tea (other beverages are available!) and conversation. Looking for practical support or advice? Struggling with physical or mental health issues? Feeling lonely or isolated? We offer positive mental health and well-being support through activities and engaging with others. Our beneficiaries, staff and volunteers, have a wealth of lived experience and you can often find peer support in discussing shared experiences. We can offer 1-2-1 sessions. Although we don’t offer formal counselling or clinical treatment, talking through issues can help and we will support you in forming a plan of action. We can support you with referrals to other organisations and services, or to help you find the information you need.

On notification of a veteran in custody, CAC will make contact with the individual and, if in a prison we have full access to, will interview them on a face to face basis and identify their needs and requirements. This may range from practical support in obtaining training for employment, signposting for accommodation or finance or substance misuse liaison to complex mental health support. With our links to NHS England, mental health support is provided to those directly affected by service related trauma. Support is offered from point of sentence until release and then up to a year post release through a volunteer mentor scheme. Whilst in custody, veterans will be invited to attend monthly group forums which are held to promote community but also have a psycho-educational direction to assist in addressing offending behaviour. These forums take place within the prisons and may also just be used as a good get together over a cup of tea and a biscuit. This provides a sense of wellbeing and camaraderie. Additional to the full service, we also offer a remote service whereby veterans are supported through letter and phone. All veterans who sign up to the service whilst in custody are entitled to receive a wellbeing pack, which was developed during COVID and has continued. This contains fact based articles, puzzles, jokes, advice, exercises and letters from others. It has been proven to greatly improve the MH of veterans within custody. We currently operate in over 70 prisons across England and Wales providing both full and remote services.. Over the entire prison system we support upwards of 500 veterans at any one time.

Location

Caerphilly, Caerphilly CF82 7EP
Description
Guitars for Veterans delivers a structured professional guitar training program of 26 weeks of lessons and a free guitar on completing Grade 1 with Trinity College. By facilitating weekly groups, the support is there when its needed and members are supported to build their confidence, whilst developing their own support network. We assist those that served by seeking donations of used or new guitars, together with financial support for equipment and core costs.
The project provides ‘brave spaces’ within the community. Groups are run by volunteers who understand many of the issues faced by our Veterans. The project works closely with professionals to support issues raised by those attending. It also provides the veterans with an opportunity or chance to join others, to learn a new skill, and to get together with a purpose in a supported and safe environment.
Working in partnership with organisations such as Woody’s Lodge, Veterans Hubs, Boots on the Ground and Mental Health Matters – Wales, ensures that the Veterans attending the groups are signposted to services which can meet their individual needs when they need it.

.
We offer an advice and information service – this ranges from providing a brew/wet/tea, to the correct phone number for a service or assisting a family with the burial of a Veteran.
We also have a ‘hot-desk’ this is for other agencies to use in-conjunction with our users or their own, as an example one organisation running a monthly clinic is the DWP (Veteran team) They offer advice and guidance on benefits, pensions often helping the Veteran or family member obtain financial assistance they otherwise would not know of.
We have a Veteran specific NHS Nurse, she is here to talk over mental health problems and support people at all stages of their journey, all done in a friendly informal but professional manner.
We pride ourselves with being able to ‘join the dots’ and take out as much of the red tape as possible.
Being Veteran run, we have a wide range of shared experience and understanding. Hopefully making the journey as smooth as possible, in which ever direction they are travelling.

At the moment we are a drop-in centre for Veterans to grab a coffee and be around like-minded people, with our close connection with 4 local Veteran charities we have been able to get Veterans the right help when needed just by opening up over a coffee.
We are in the process of getting planning permission to build a bigger workshop which will have far more facilities to look after veterans and train them in mechanical engineering getting them NVQs.
We will also house an on-site mental health nurse so veterans in their hour of need can get immediate help.
The new facility has so much potential for further help for veterans and we believe this will be the first of its like in the UK

Don’t be shy simply turn up introduce yourself to one of the team. let us know your connection to the military family and simply pull up a sandbag. We Offer a bottomless brew that you can make a donation if you can afford to or if times are tight, simply grab a brew and crack on. we have no formal membership forms but you will be expected to have a connection to the military in a significant way. https://www.littlehamptonafvbc.org.uk/about/
Welfare – “Firmis Firmamentum” support without prejudice. In addition to the breakfast and banter we operate theLiVeS project as our welfare arm provided by our armed forces champions (trained by the NHS armed ForcesNetwork) and community connectors project volunteers (advice on health & wellbeing). You can get in touch at anytime or speak to any of the admin team during a club meeting to advise us of a personal welfare need or as an advocate for another veteran/ member of the military family. We make one promise which is to “try and help”, if we are unable to help, we will do our best to signpost to a relevant organisation that can. Our welfare support is available to all members of the military family and not exclusively for club members. We have created links with multiple service charities, and we have forged a trusted relationship with the local authorities working together with their armed forces champions to ensure veterans needs are addressed and any veteran that comes to the attention of the local authority will also be signposted to us for peer-to-peer support. We also are the founding member of The Southern Veterans Hubs WhatsApp group which is an ever-growing informal network of representatives from other veterans’ groups and professionals across the region where we can get advice or assistance at moment’s notice to ensure no one falls between the cracks. “Collaboration not Competition” is central to our ability to get the job done.

We attend the workshops organised by the Armed Forces Covenant and Cobseo. We work closely with charities and Organisations including The RBL, MVS NCA NHS in GM, Veterans in Communities and Disability Stockport.

Phoenix Heroes CIC build communities, we run our own Veteran Carp Angling Club (VCAC) and hold fishing events around the UK on a monthly basis, we use the fisheries as our meet-up hubs and our beneficiaries come from all parts of the UK. We have a team of Regional Coordinators that cover most counties and they bring our local beneficiaries together within their own areas and arrange regular fishing days/nights. All of our beneficiaries are given the option to travel to join us to fish some of the best fisheries in the UK and we are aligned with some very good fisheries in France too.
Under our Tackle 4 Heroes project of which has now gone national, we are able to kit out our veterans with free fishing equipment so they can come and join us on our fishing events, we look after the families too. We are one of the fastest growing active veteran organisations in the UK under our VCAC initiative and receiving some fantastic support from within the fishing industry. Within our community, our beneficiaries can access the other services that we provide outside of fishing/community building from employment networking and mental health support.

Description
We use the sport of dragonboat racing to support the rehabilitation and the improved quality of life of veterans with a physical, neurological or psychological impairment (inclusive of PTSD) which does not need to be caused by their service. This provides a unique experience through training days and events which are held at various locations around the country, as well as offering a fun, safe community which can be accessed on a continuous basis through social forums in between monthly dates. This also offers up opportunity to become involved in your local dragonboat club and paddling for Great Britain! We can also help with travel costs to access our activity if required once you are registered.
We have had incredibly positive feedback from those we support around improvements in many aspects of their lives, but most prominently around health and great friendships.
Families are extremely welcome to come along as well as unimpaired veterans, and supporters which can spectate or for a small annual donation to the charity, participate in activity.

The client decides when to stop. Each client is coached to change the meaning they are making of events or the future in order to change the feeling. The work is content free so there is no requirement to relive trauma.
Sessions last a minimum of one hour on video or 2 face-to-face. Video work allows us to reach a veteran or a family member anywhere in the UK or the world.

Our model is based upon co-operation with other existing service charities both in London and beyond where we might enhance the support offer to service veterans. We currently hold a monthly ‘Gateway’ event aimed at attracting Service Veterans, including Merchant Navy of state pensionable age from the Greater London area. Each event has a theme aimed at the older cohort of veterans but which may be attended by others outside the target group. We have begun to establish a database of older veterans who might benefit from being invited to join activities routinely enjoyed by residents of the RHC, ie: – Chelsea Pensioners.
Our expansion plans are focused on collaboration with other service charities nationwide as well as the NHS for which association with the RHC brand might be of benefit.

The Hub is a key place for veterans and their families to come to in times of crisis and tough times. In addition to this, we hope the Hub will become a staging post to other services, as well as offering drop in clinics and advice services from the mainstream charities and local government services. The Veterans Hub, above all things, will bring together veterans within the local community in order that none of them ever feel left behind or forgotten about.
We meet on the last Wednesday of the month – and the Hub is growing from to strength with a few Vets becoming regulars. In addition to our coffee mornings we give our Vets free tickets to attend our league matches – a scheme that has benefitted several Vets that now look forward to weekends and the opportunity to watch football matches in a safe and fun atmosphere.

The SMART Veterans Programme has used the four key points of SMART Recovery and adapted these to suit the needs for veterans with an addictive or compulsive behaviour.
Research documents that an alarming number of veterans returning from military deployment and combat suffer from addiction. The traumatic experiences encountered on the battlefield can overwhelm coping skills and cause mental health conditions. Many veterans will self-medicate with alcohol and substances or engage in risky behaviours that can compound problems.

To relieve the hardship faced by veterans, currently serving personnel, and associated family and friends who have a direct connection with the Isle of Wight, either past or present, in respect of finance, trauma, isolation and well-being. The Isle of Wight has a high number of Military Veterans living here and over the last few years after long friendly conversations with service personnel both past and present, their families and friends. Description
Tom Harrison House is an addiction recovery centre for ex-forces personnel.
We support veterans from across the UK and from all three services – The Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force – as well as reservists, still-serving soldiers, and those who work or have worked in the emergency services.
We also offer support to the family members of those who access our programme.
Based in Liverpool, our centre was opened in 2014 as a response to the fact that there were no military-specific addiction services in the UK, especially for veterans struggling to access mainstream, civilian services or who found these services were inappropriate for them.
We work in close partnership with statutory and community organisations to provide a trauma-informed, residential addiction treatment programme across three key stages:
Open Access Referral & Mentor Support
12-Week Residential Recovery Programme
Aftercare and Resettlement Support
Our team of addiction specialists comprises both civilian and ex-forces personnel. We are supported by our dedicated team of volunteers, all of whom have been through the programme themselves and have subsequently completed a course in volunteering and peer mentorship.
Our live-in support team are also on hand outside of programme hours to make sure that all beneficiaries have round-the-clock access to the support and assistance of the team

Opening Times
Tuesday – Friday 0700-1400 Saturday 1000 – 1500
Location
17 Station Street
Huddersfield, West Yorkshire HD1 1LS
Description
We are a coffee lounge is Huddersfield, providing safe spaces for Veterans and families. We help combat social isolation and suicide, through various group activities, care home to Tommy’s coffee mornings, days out, arts and craft therapy groups, veterans and veterans in care Christmas dinners, letter writing activities for those that are home alone through Give a few words, visits to veterans in Hospitals, sensory play days for families with disabled and or autistic children. The Mess Club Dinners and more.
We have created a safe and warm place to come and be yourself, you can sit with a brew and read a book, do a puzzle book, play board games and cards, or you can get involved with old stories and go down memory lane with like minded people. If you simply want to sit in quiet then this is not a problem, you can join in when you are ready. There is no pressure to join in or drink up and leave, you can sit for as long as you like.
Our staff provide peer to peer support and if we feel you need a little bit more help we will sit and help sign post you to the right people to help.
We serve hot and cold foods, along with our own brand of coffee, teas and cold drinks. Our popular food choices are the Currywurst and Bratwurst straight from Germany, for those who served in Germany its like you never left, our ingredients are brought in direct for Germany for that authentic taste. This also peaks a lot of old stories shared and most laughter alongside.
As we grow we will have Volunteer positions, so keep an eye out.
We regularly have Breakfast clubs use Tommy’s as a meeting place, we do not hold a license for alcohol, as we understand that a lot of veterans may have addictions, this is a place where you can come and feel at ease knowing there is nothing on site.
We have free WiFi, students and anyone wanting a change of scenery for remote working are more than welcome.
Our projects are constantly growing the more we grow and network.

Company Number: 14778680
Opening Times
Contact Naomi Horlock for times and events
Location
Connah’s Quay Resource Centre
Fron Road
Connahs Quay
Flintshire CH5 4PJ
Description
The Veterans & Community Hub (the VC Hub) CIC is a newly founded, largely veteran-led organisation based in Connahs Quay, Deeside. The VC Hub is a not-for-profit company set-up to support military veterans, their families and the community in the Deeside area and beyond.
In March Connah’s Quay Town Council agreed to give us a home in a building that had once housed a café. This inspired us to create Caffinaafi, a community café with an ethos that echoes the best qualities of military and civilian social spaces – connection, good humour, a sense of acceptance and belonging, support and camaraderie – along with a decent brew and great coffee.
We are an unfunded organisation dependant on raising income from donations and trading Caffinaafi. As well as this new partnership with 5 Aside Chess, we collaborate with arts organisations such as Re-live and Theatr Clwyd, military organisations such as SSAFA and Woody’s Lodge and statutory agencies such as the Probation Service and DWP. Our well-being activities for veterans and their families include: song-writing, singing, guitar and cornet sessions, model-making and military history groups. We plan to expand the programme and to develop our ideas for a second venue in a semi-rural setting to accommodate some of the more sensitive work we do.
Caffinaafi is supported by Connah’s Quay Town Council, SSAFA, the local and ex-military community and our customers.
Caffinaafi is open Tuesday – Friday 10 – 4pm. Pease contact us for information about our developing programme for veterans. From 2024 we will begin using Caffinaafi in from 4 – 8/8.30pm for veteran and community sessions in using after school Digital Detox; Men’s group; Female Veteran’s group; Music/Jamming sessions.

Charity Number: 1183537
Company Number:
Opening Times
Monday-Friday 0930-1630
Location
Rocks Farm Oast
Cottage Lane
Westfield, East Sussex TN35 4RS
Description
Veterans’ Growth works with veterans from the tri-services who are suffering with mental health issues, such as, but not limited to, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). To combat any sense of isolation our veterans are experiencing and the stress and anxiety that can arise from their situation, we are looking to build social relationships during their time with us.
The courses aim to reduce participants’ levels of stress, anxiety, depression and isolation. We seek to establish long-term social connections within the group and with the individual attending. We also aim to provide an introduction to a new skill, horticulture, that can be fostered once the course is over to provide a future hobby or possibly career.

Established in 2010, Walking With The Wounded ‘WWTW’ is a leading military charity which recognises that those who served, deserve.
Walking With The Wounded gets those who’ve served – and their families – back on their feet. We do three things: employment, mental health and care coordination which are saving jobs, homes, relationships and lives for the veterans who are struggling since leaving the military.
Walking with the Wounded operate large Integrated Regional Services across the North of England with the main drop in centres being Manchester and North Shields.
Whether mentally, physically, or socially wounded, veterans deserve the care, support and means they and their families need to function in society, serving in the communities in which they live, reigniting their sense of purpose and making a positive contribution again.
Walking with the Wounded work in partnership with the NHS Individual Veterans Mental Health OP Courage service and support vulnerable veterans both in the community and navigating their mental health journey.
